CH 444 - Biochemistry I

This course will build from a solid foundation of organic and general chemistry. Topics include examination of water as the matrix of life, investigation into the structural framework of our biological macromolecules involving the fundamental building blocks of amino acids, carbohydrates, lipids and nucleotides, and evaluation of the process of biological information flow leading the central dogma of biochemistry. Special emphasis will be placed on assessment of biological architecture and the fundamental roles of each of our four classes of macromolecules.
Prerequisite(s): CH 231 or CH 136.
