HCID 230 - Game Design

This lecture and project-based course focuses on the theoretical and practical approaches to effective game design. Students study design principles for engaging games, including play, balance, narrative, character development, aesthetics and sound. Students analyze common game types and design several simple games using these principles, such as platform games, scrolling games, tile-based games, card games, puzzle games, and first- person based 3D games. Emphasis is placed on testing, revising, and documenting projects.
Prerequisite(s): HCID 110 , or CS 114  or higher, or permission of instructor.
Laboratory fee.
