PHI 271 - Philosophy of Science

People often appeal to “science” as the most secure and objective form of knowledge. But, what makes knowledge scientific? If scientific knowledge is so trustworthy, why does it change over time? This course will introduce students to the foundations for the scientific method, how scientific assumptions change over time, what makes scientific reasoning special, and the role that values and subjectivity play in scientific investigation.
