PHI 282 - Philosophy of Ancient Greece and Rome

3 credit(s)
Surprisingly enough, the philosophers of ancient Greece and Rome were perplexed by the same issues that capture attention today. They argued over the best system of governance, what makes someone virtuous, the difference between knowledge and opinion, and what constitutes our experiences of the world. Importantly, they were also concerned with what we now call scientific exploration of the natural world. This course provides a survey of thinkers such as Socrates, Plato, Aristotle, Marcus Aurelius, Seneca, and Xeno, among others.
