SOC 170D - Introduction to Criminal Justice


3 credit(s) High Impact Practice: Diversity and Global Learning
This course examines crime, justice, and injustice in America. The course introduces the ideologies of crime and crime control; the determination of rates of crime; the structure, operation, and effectiveness of the major criminal justice agencies, and contemporary issues in criminal justice. The course also examines how group differences such as race/ethnicity, gender, sexuality, and country of origin shape how people experience the criminal justice system. An emphasis is placed on how the criminal justice system can be changed so all people are treated fairly.
