UISC 182 - Civilization to 1650: Unfolding of Traditional Civilization

This course provides an overview of ancient civilizations from prehistory to the early modern era. Students will examine the political, economic, social, religious, and cultural aspects of ancient civilizations, including but not limited to Mesopotamia, Egypt, India, Greece, Rome, China, and the Americas. Rather than presenting a Eurocentric perspective, this course will explore a diverse range of human experiences and interactions. Using the lens of gender, race, ethnicity, and class, students will analyze the distribution of power within societies and consider how individuals and groups challenge power structures.
