General Education Requirements (A&S)

In addition to major requirements, students must meet the General Education Requirements that correlate to their degree.

Major GPA and Grade Requirements

Students must maintain a minimum grade point average of 2.0 in courses required to complete the major. All courses required for the major must be taken for a letter grade.

Requirements for the Major in Digital Media and Journalism

Required credits: 36

Writing Requirement

Student Firms or Internship Course

Choose one of the following:

Elective Courses*

Majors select one area of emphasis: Digital Media Production, Journalism and Sports Media, or Media

  • 18 credits of elective coursework is required.
  • Students take 12 to 18 credits in the selected emphasis area.
  • Students must complete a minimum of 6 credits of courses at the 300 or 400 level in the selected emphasis to demonstrate some depth in the area.
  • Up to 6 credits can be taken in the other emphases.


*When selecting electives, students have the option of completing an additional three credits of Student Firms or an internship beyond the Student Firms or Internship course required of all majors. (CMM 406 , CMM 407 , CMM 464 , CMM 465 , CMM 466  ,CMM 467 ). Students are not allowed to double count the same three credits.
