EDE 664 - Elementary Math Methods 3 credit(s) This course provides students with an overview of various methodologies and materials (manipulatives and computer based) specifically used for effective mathematics teaching at the elementary school level. Students will become knowledgeable in selecting appropriate methods for assessing all elementary students in this discipline as well as assessing curricular effectiveness. The National Council of Teachers of Mathematics standards along with Connecticut’s Curricular Framework for Mathematics will be fully reviewed. Students will explore and reflect on the variety in learning styles found on the elementary level and will be responsive to typical problematic patterns such as “math phobia.” Participants will also be able to analyze their own experiences, perceptions, and attitudes about math and, as reflective practitioners, will become aware of how these factors impact young learners. Prerequisite(s): EDE 663 .
