BE 460 - Biomedical Engineering Design Project I 3 credit(s) Senior-level design project, two-semester sequence. Over the course of two terms, students work on projects of biomedical engineering design originated by faculty or external mentors. Students develop a proposal, then design (or redesign) and construct a biomedical device, process, or system. A formal, written presentation of the project is expected, along with an oral presentation of the completed project. This is a major design experience based on the knowledge and skills acquired in earlier course work, and incorporating engineering standards and realistic constraints that include most of the following considerations: economic, environmental, sustainability, manufacturing, ethical, health and safety, social, and political. Course lecture component includes design methodology (including probability and statistics), cost estimation, and safety. Prerequisite(s): Senior standing in biomedical engineering. Laboratory fee.
