US 150 First Year Success Seminar


All incoming new students will be registered for US 150 - First Year Success Seminar  during the first semester of the first year.  The credit earned for this course does not count toward the completion of the degree.

4Prerequisite: Cumulative grade point average of 2.67 required; no more than one C in a music education or education course.

Students must successfully complete the PRAXIS I Academic Skills Assessment prior to the end of fall semester of the sophomore year.

Students must submit SAT, ACT, or Praxis I scores to the Music Education Division Coordinator. For the two-score SAT system (1,600 maximum, 800 per test), students must have a minimum combined score of 900 for (mathematics, combined reading and writing), with a minimum of 400 for each test. For the three-score SAT system (2,400 maximum, 800 per test), students must have a minimum combined score of 1,350 (mathematics, critical reading, writing), with a minimum of 400 for each test. For the ACT, students must have a minimum score of 19. For the Praxis I, students must have a minimum score of 140 on each of three portions-mathematics, critical reading, and writing. Students who do not meet these minimum scores will be offered remediation as appropriate on a case-by-case basis in order to meet Connecticut requirements for teacher certification.
