Students must successfully complete the PRAXIS I Academic Skills Assessment prior to the end of the fall semester of the sophomore year.
Guitar majors are required to maintain a GPA of at least 2.5 within their major courses and to earn a B- or better in their applied lessons.
Students must submit SAT, ACT, or Praxis I scores to the Music Education Division Coordinator. For the two-score SAT system (1,600 maximum, 800 per test), students must have a minimum combined score of 900 for (mathematics, combined reading and writing), with a minimum of 400 for each test. For the three-score SAT system (2,400 maximum, 800 per test), students must have a minimum combined score of 1,350 (mathematics, critical reading, writing), with a minimum of 400 for each test. For the ACT, students must have a minimum score of 19. For the Praxis I, students must have a minimum score of 140 on each of three portions-mathematics, critical reading, and writing. Students who do not meet these minimum scores will be offered remediation as appropriate on a case-by-case basis in order to meet Connecticut requirements for teacher certification.
