Robotics Engineering, B.S.R.E.


Educational Objectives


The objective of this program is to prepare students to fulfill the growing and expected demands for entry level in robotics. The program will focus on robotics principals, designs and operation and it will be hands-on. The program will take advantage of our strong offerings in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, and mechanical engineering. Additionally, the program will benefit from the laboratories in CETA and especially the two new robotics labs. 

Robotics is the discipline that combines electrical, mechanical, sensing, and programming in real time. It plays a role in nearly every aspect of our lives, and we can see its applications in automation, manufacturing, the defense industry, commerce -like Amazon-, and the healthcare industry to mention few.

Program Education Objectives (PEOs)

PEO 1: During their careers, robotics engineering graduates will become successful and ethical practicing engineers or pursue another career that makes use of engineering principles, professional skills, and ethics;

PEO 2: During their careers, robotics engineering graduates will become contributing members of diverse multidisciplinary teams and successfully apply the fundamentals of their educational background;

PEO 3: During their careers, robotics engineering graduates will pursue professional development, including continuing or advanced education, relevant to their career path.

Student Outcomes (SOs)

1. An ability to identify, formulate, and solve complex engineering problems by applying principles of engineering, science, and mathematics.

2. An ability to apply engineering design to produce solutions that meet specified needs with consideration of public health, safety, and welfare, as well as global, cultural, social, environmental, and economic factors.

3. An ability to communicate effectively with a range of audiences.

4. An ability to recognize ethical and professional responsibilities in engineering situations and make informed judgments, which must consider the impact of engineering solutions in global, economic, environmental, and societal contexts.

5. An ability to function effectively on a team whose members together provide leadership, create a collaborative and inclusive environment, establish goals, plan tasks, and meet objectives.

6. An ability to develop and conduct appropriate experimentation, analyze and interpret data, and use engineering judgment to draw conclusions.

7. An ability to acquire and apply new knowledge as needed, using appropriate learning strategies.
