Program Information


Electromechanical Engineering Technology (EMET) is an interdisciplinary hands-on engineering technology program that incorporates elements of both electronic and mechanical engineering technology. The electronics component of the curriculum includes course work in areas such as analog and digital circuits, semiconductor devices and electronics, instrumentation, data acquisition, and control systems. The mechanical component consists of traditional engineering sciences including manufacturing processes, statics, mechanics, materials, machine design, and fluid mechanics. Integration of the electronic and mechanical components starts in the first semester and continues throughout the curriculum with equal emphasis on both subjects in the junior year. In the senior year, students are given the opportunity to select a specialty in areas such as robotics, communication/networks, mechanical, computer, or business/management/entrepreneurship/marketing.

The EMET program prepares students to become practicing engineering technologists who can solve interdisciplinary problems in industry and government in areas such as electronic instrumentation, testing, process control, communication, computers, alternative energy systems, robotics, manufacturing, automated control systems, and product sales and service.

Graduates of the EMET program will fill the need for a growing demand from industrial and consulting companies for engineering staff members with a wide range of technical knowledge.

Educational Objectives


Electromechanical Engineering Technology graduates will develop

  • a commitment to lifelong learning, quality and continuous improvement through the clear ability to assume increasing levels of technical and/or management responsibility or through participation in professional societies, earning advanced degrees, receiving additional training or certifications.
  • the ability to contribute to engineering teams that design effective and efficient new products, systems and processes.
  • leadership skills while working on teams involved in the analysis, development, implementation, or oversight of electrical and/or mechanical systems and processes.
