MED 200 - World Music in Education

Throughout this course students expand their knowledge of musics from around the world, create teaching strategies that align with world music pedagogy, and explore the methods used in ethnomusicology. The three strands of the course, world music, world music pedagogy, and ethnomusicology, will be addressed through reading, listening, planning, presenting, and discussing course content. Upon completion of this course, students are able to accurately identify musical characteristics of a variety of musics, utilize a culturally informed approach to teaching world music, and incorporate ethnomusicological fieldwork methods to explore an unfamiliar musical culture. This course is for music education majors only.
Prerequisite(s): MED 110  and MEA 104 .
