Program Information
Program Director: Fuller
Architectural engineering technology is a rigorous academic discipline that prepares students for a variety of professional careers in the design and building industries. The major is structured to provide a foundation in mathematics and the basic sciences, with laboratories and studios that are part of the architectural and engineering technologies. A strong component of general education, with particular emphasis on communication skills, ensures that students who pursue this program of study will have a broadly based education that prepares the graduate for continued education in architecture or entry into architecture or the building industries. While the career objectives of graduates vary greatly depending on their concentration of electives, all involve interaction with other professions in the design and building industries.
The Bachelor of Science program is accredited by the Engineering Technology Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ETAC/ABET) 111 Market Place, Suite 1050, Baltimore, MD 21202; 410.347.7700. The Master of Architecture program is accredited by the National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB), 1735 New York Avenue NW, Washington, DC 20006; www.naab.org.
Because of the overlapping nature of the various technological disciplines, some students may have career goals that combine elements of more than one major. For this reason, the Architecture department offers both a standard program and an area of concentration in construction management.
Concentration in Construction Management
The degree requirements of this concentration is an AET curriculum with specific required courses in management and construction techniques which will supply a graduating student with the ability to enter the management field with a strong architectural and structural design background.
Currently, the AET degree requires students to complete 12 credits of technical specialties and 9 credits of professional electives for a total of 21 credits. The Construction Management Concentration requires students to complete 13 credits of the 21 credits with a grade of C or better.
Acceptable technical specialties are AET 353 and two other upper-level courses in the major.4
Acceptable professional electives are AET 250 , AET 340 , and one of the following: AET 300 , AET 442 , and MGT 310 .
