Program Requirement Notes


1 Students are encouraged to supplement their program of study by taking unrestricted electives from any of the colleges in the University.

2 Architecture ET major Includes all AET courses.

3 A grade of C or better will be required to advance through the architectural design class sequence: AET 123 , AET 233 , AET 244 , AET 352 , and AET 371 .

4 Technical specialties for the standard program are upper-level courses in the major, and include AET 343 , 353 , 356 , 358 , 359 , 362 , 366 , 371 , 373 , 384 , 471 , 473 , 481 , and 489 .

Construction management concentration: Acceptable technical specialties are AET 353  and two other upper-level courses in the major as listed above. Acceptable professional electives are

5 The All-University Curriculum (AUC) requires 12 credits, one in each of the following categories:

  • AUCA Living Responsively to the Arts
  • AUCC Living in a Cultural Context: Other Cultures
  • AUCS Living in a Social Context
  • AUCW Living in a Cultural Context Western Heritage

Engineering students must take AUCW 180 - A Western Heritage: The Humanities  or AUCW 212 - Discovering America III: American Civilization, 1945 to Present  and AUCS 340 - Ethics in the Professions .

Engineering technology students in architecture, audio, computer, electronic, electromechanical, or mechanical majors must take AUCS 340 - Ethics in the Professions .

6 Lab science electives include any 4-credit science with a lab BIO, CH, PHY, and SCI.

7 Technology professional electives are courses that contribute to a student’s career goals and objectives, including courses in architecture, engineering technology, engineering, science, mathematics, business, computer science, technology, fine arts, music, and education. Courses from other areas may be taken if approved using a substitution/waiver form.

8 Engineering professional/acoustics electives include courses in engineering, physics, chemistry, biology, and mathematics. Generally, these electives should be at the 200 level or above. For mechanical engineering, electives should typically be at the 300 level or as approved by the advisor.

9 Humanities electives normally include history, art history, music history, cinema, communications (other than applied courses), drama, English and English literature, foreign and modern languages, and philosophy. The social science electives are anthropology, economics, languages, politics and government, psychology, and sociology.

10 Includes all ES, BE, CE, ME, and ECE courses; and CS courses for the computer engineering degree.

11 Environmental professional electives must be selected from the following list:

  • CE 502 - Groundwater Hydrology
  • CE 503 - Geographic Information Systems in Practice
  • CE 504 - Connecticut Environmental Regulations and Policy
  • CE 509 - Pollution Prevention
  • CE 523 - Engineering Hydrology
  • CE 524 - Solid Waste Management
  • CH 519 - Applied Environmental Chemistry
  • CH 539 - Organic Chemistry for Environmental Engineers
  • CE 591 - Special Topics in Civil/Environmental Engineering

12 Senior design project must be an environmental engineering-related subject.

13 ECE electives are ECE 234 , or any 300-, 400-, or 500-level courses. Electrical engineering sequences provide greater depth and understanding of a field or specialty. Typical sequences are given below. Other sequences may be approved by the chair.

Computer Systems:ECE 335  and ECE 336  or ECE 532 or ECE 534

Communications: ECE 423  and one of the following: ECE 521 or ECE 525 or ECE 540

Controls: ECE 442  and ECE 445  or ECE 545 or ECE 543 or ECE 544
Electric Power: (ECE 471  and ECE 473 ), or ECE 571 and ECE 572 or ECE 573
System Simulation: ECE 530 or ECE 537 or ECE 545 or ECE 551
VLSI Design: ECE 565 and ECE 567

 14 Computer science elective: Any 300- or 400-level course from the following list:

15 All electronics engineering technology majors include all ECT and ES courses.  For Mechatronics concentration and Electromechanical major, MET courses are included.

16 Technical specialties are ECT 300- or 400 level courses in the major, including ET 380  and ET 480 . MET 484  is also an acceptable technical speciality for the mechatronics concentration. Acceptable technical specialties for the electromechanical major also include MET 300- or 400-level courses.

17 Computer ET major includes CS and ECT courses.

18 Technical specialties are upper-level courses in the major. Acceptable specialties are CS 320 , 330 , 331 , 340 , 351 , 355 , 460 , 362 , 365 , 371 , 375 , 451 , ET 380 , 480 , ECT 300- or 400-level courses.

19 Audio ET major includes AUD, COM, ECT, ES, MET, MPT, and TH courses.

20 Technical specialties are upper-level CETA and Hartt School courses in the major. Acceptable specialties are AUD 462 , 471 , COM 462 , 463 , 466 , CS 220 , 320 , 330 , 331 , 340 , 351 , 355 , 460 , 362 , 365 , 371 , 375 , 451 , ET 380 , 480 , ECT 232 , 242 , 300- or 400-level courses; MET 300- or 400-level courses; TH 210 , 211 , 330 , 333 , 410 , 420 , 421 , 422 , 435 , 455 .

21 Six optional credits in recording studio techniques.

22 Mechanical ET major includes ECT, ES, ME, and MET courses.

23 Technical specialties are upper-level courses in the major. Acceptable specialties are ME 505,  MET 473 , 474 , and 483 .

24 First area of specilaization electives must be any 200-level or above engineering course (BE, CE, ECE, ES, ME).

25 Second area of specialization electives must be courses at the 200 level or above in engineering or related majors as outlined in approved program of study.
